Munich (dpa) – Augsburg have renewed the contract of their Swiss winger Ruben Vargas for another year to 2025, the Bundesliga club said on Sunday.
Vargas, 22, came to Augsburg in 2019 and is a regular starter there, scoring 12 goals in 63 Bundesliga games.
“Ruben Vargas has developed brilliantly during his first two seasons with us. We’re convinced that this can continue significantly and therefore offered him a premature extension,» sporting director Stefan Reuter said.»
Vargas said the renewal shows «how much the club believes that I can help the team in the coming years and that I can continue to develop here. I want to repay this faith through good performances.”
Vargas is back at the club after reaching the Euro 2020 quarter-finals with Switzerland. He missed a penalty in their shoot-out defeat against Spain.
Augsburg start the Bundesliga season on August 14 against Hoffenheim.
